Well Check

I’ve heard it said that we become our parents. But when do we become our parents parents? I used to worry about my mom because she spent the final years of her life living alone. We talked on the phone almost weekly. If something had happened to her I was in no position to get there quickly. Luckily I have sisters who were close by.

I treasured my visits home and spent lots of evenings watching reruns of her favorite shows. Quite often I would glance over and she would have drifted off for a moment. Watching, I would think about all the sacrifices she made for us even after we were grown women. There was no end to her love as a mom.

Now it’s my turn to be checked on by my children. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have raised two such caring people. A day without a Facebook post always elicits a phone call from my son just to check in and make sure I’m ok. Being cared about is one of life’s greatest blessings. Knowing it is one of life’s greatest feelings.

“Her children rise up and call her blessed” . ~ Proverbs 31:28
