It’s no secret to anyone who knows me. I love Christmas!
When I was little Christmas was always so awesome. We didn’t have much money but Mom always made it special. Some years there was a silver artificial tree and other years there was a live tree. They were always beautifully decorated with tinsel that was placed “one strand at a time.”
Our house was the gathering place for everyone. The door was always open to family and friends. The smell of delicious home baked goodies wafted through the rooms leaving anyone on a diet no chance of surviving! A huge turkey or rappie pie was cooking in the oven and we couldn’t wait to devour it.
Ahhh…but Christmas Eve belonged to us kids.
After playing out in the snow most of the day we would come into the old Kemac stove that was flaunting it’s inate ability to warm up the house. The excitement was always too much and as many times as we were warned against it, we “had” to snoop at the gifts. We really became quite skillful at replacing the tape without damaging the wrapping paper. And oh the look on our faces the next morning when we were so surprised by the gifts.
I’ve never lost the ability to be excited about giving gifts. I still love it. I hope that those who receive the gifts can also sense some of that excitement that I’ve wrapped them up in.
