When we were kids we played a game called “London Bridge.” We would stand in a circle holding hands and sing a snappy little tune that went like this:
“London Bridge is falling down, falling down, falling down. London Bridge is falling down my fair lady.”
Then we would fall to the ground giggling. It was a silly but fun game and I played it with my children too.
These days falling down takes on a whole new meaning for me. It’s no longer fun or silly, although I do tend to laugh at myself as long as there is no injury and pray no one saw me. I read somewhere that those who can’t get up off the floor without using their hands will be the most likely to die. Well, I may as well start digging ’cause it aint happening!
There is another kind of falling down though and that is spiritually. Psalm 37: 23-24 says “The Lord directs the steps of the Godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall for the Lord holds them by the hand.”
I am grateful that in all the difficult times I have gone through, God has been there to pick me up. He has never left me alone. I know that if I start to fall He will catch me. He is my safety net. No more London Bridge for this girl!
