Science calls it the fight or flight response. That feeling you get when you’re driving down the road and you hit an icy patch. Your adrenaline rushes through your bloodstream and your heart pounds. I call it sheer terror. After hitting a telephone pole, one becomes more fearful.
As I was driving on less than ideal roads today, I noticed several vehicles behind me. I have a personal rule that I will only go the speed that I am comfortable with. They can pass if they want to. I will even pull over for them.
So it is with life. Sometimes we rush headlong into situations that we aren’t sure of. With a new year comes the assuredness of both celebration and misfortune. I am choosing new adventures, new relationships, and better health. But most of all I long for growth. I want to love God, myself, and others more. I want to take the time I need to keep moving forward; to figure out where the road is leading me; to navigate the turns. So, if I’m going to slow for you……don’t drive behind me!
The Lord says “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” Psalm 32:8 NLT
