I come from a long line of strong women. As far back as I can remember there were stories told about my grandmothers. Tales of how they faced adversity when they lived through hurricanes, death of a child or raising children by themselves. It was a hard life for them at times. My paternal grandmother earned less than $10 day as a switchboard operator while raising 8 children.
I watched my sisters struggle through failed relationships. My mom was always there with words of wisdom. Sometimes that advice was received as harsh words but always had an underlying tone of truth and love. I myself have been on the battleground holding what felt like a butter knife instead of a sword. But I refused to succumb to the fight and somehow found my strength.
Women really do have a resilience that can only be found by digging deep into themselves. We are taught to be loving and nurturing and that’s ok. But when push comes to shove and everything is on the line, we will undeniably find that in reality we are indeed “concrete angels!”
“He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters.” Psalm 18:16
