Past Times

As I was looking through photos on my computer today there were many of my mom, dad and family. I smiled as I thought about the stories they had told over the years and I realized that those same stories are likely to fade into the past when my generation is gone.

My kids and their cousins will remember some of them but the details will be foggy. They will have their own stories to share with their children and grandchildren. Those will be the ones that will be passed on until they too fade. I guess that’s how it’s supposed to be. But I hope that I will leave some memories that will be thought of from time to time and shared when everyone is sitting around reminiscing.

We need to hold onto the past only to remember where we came from. That is our heritage and it cannot be changed. We can only move forward into our own futures and make new memories. That is where we find our strengths and weaknesses and it is the place that we can decide who we want to be and what legacy we will leave.

“A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children.” Proverbs 13: 22
