Cat Pause

I read somewhere that cats have an attitude because they are Gods perfect killing machine yet we continuously pick them up, snuggle and kiss them!

If you’ve ever had a cat you know how independent they are. They like to do things in their own time. Like sleep all day and play all night. By play I mean fight with each other on the bed that you’re trying to sleep in. Last night I woke up to find my cat sitting on the nightstand staring intently at me as if he had an attack planned! This same cat insists on standing just inches from my face at random times and letting out a yowl that would scare the Hulk.

The fact that they dig the furniture, rip the window screens and run for the rugs when they vomit doesn’t seem to stop us from wanting them. After all they are so cute and fluffy. And that purr just melts our hearts. But don’t be fooled. These little furballs will purr when they are hungry or stressed out as well. I have been the recipient of an outright onslaught from my cat that was purring just seconds before. When my daughter was little she was sleeping with her head close to the edge of the bed when the cat decided to have a go at her face. The resulting near miss of her eye was met with a deafening screech and retreat of a cat who knew something bad was about to happen to her.

Despite all of this my cats have been a comfort to me in the past 8 months. They have slept with me on cold nights. They have let me cuddle them when I am sad and don’t mind that my salty tears have moistened their fur. They have been “someone” to come home to. For that I am grateful.

“When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord, your God…” Isaiah 43: 2-3
